Andy Warhol 1928-1987
Warhol’s Moonwalk portfolio, created in 1987, consists of two screen prints featuring a single historic moment: the Apollo 11 moon landing of 1969. Drawn from official NASA photography, the image depicts astronaut Buzz Aldrin standing on the lunar surface with the American flag—an event widely considered one of the most iconic and televised moments of the 20th century.
In keeping with his late career interest in mass-mediated images and cultural mythology, Warhol reframes this monumental event not through narrative, but as visual icon. His characteristic silkscreen method flattens the original photographic realism, transforming it into a bold and stylised composition. Each screen print isolates a different rendering of the same source material, reducing the complexities of human achievement to image, symbol, and repetition.
Moonwalk is among the final works produced during Warhol’s lifetime and reflects a shift toward political and historical subjects—treating events as brands, and documentation as mass media artefacts. The complete set is presented in excellent condition and is signed and numbered. Full authentication and provenance are available from Coskun Fine Art.
