Andy Warhol 1928-1987
Mao (F & S II.94) exemplifies Warhol’s technique of eroding the line between propaganda and popular culture. Using a portrait designed for ideological uniformity, Warhol disrupts its original purpose, transforming it into an aesthetic object subjected to reinterpretation. The Mao series coincided with a moment of renewed Western interest in China, but Warhol’s treatment resists political commentary—instead examining how repetition itself renders all images equivalent. This screen print is part of the complete 1972 Mao portfolio and is presented in excellent condition with full authentication and documentation from Coskun Fine Art.
