Andy Warhol 1928-1987
Andy Warhol’s Ingrid Bergman portfolio, published in 1983, consists of three screen prints: Herself (F&S II.313), With Hat (F&S II.314), and The Nun (F&S II.315). The series pays tribute to the acclaimed Swedish actress and Hollywood icon, whose image Warhol reinterprets through his signature process of repetition, stylisation, and decontextualisation.
Commissioned by Galerie Börjeson in Malmö, Sweden, the portfolio was created specifically for a European audience, reflecting Bergman’s dual legacy as both an American screen legend and an internationally respected figure. Warhol selected images from studio publicity stills and film roles, including The Bells of St. Mary’s (1945), to construct a portrait of fame that is less about biography than about mediated identity.
As with Warhol’s earlier celebrity series, the Ingrid Bergman prints remove the subject from narrative and transform her into a stylised icon. The series explores the tension between individuality and image, performance and persona—central themes throughout Warhol’s work.
Each print in the portfolio is signed and numbered, and the set is presented in excellent condition by Coskun Fine Art. Full authentication and provenance are available upon request.
