Mao (F & S II.92) is part of Andy Warhol’s 1972 Mao portfolio, which repositions a state-imposed political portrait within the language of Pop Art. In this edition, Warhol reinforces his strategy of cultural flattening—placing the likeness of Mao Zedong on equal footing with his portraits of movie stars and pop singers. By manipulating a highly recognisable political image through commercial art methods, Warhol raises questions about authorship, media influence, and the globalisation of iconography. This work forms a critical part of the complete Mao portfolio, which is presented by Coskun Fine Art in excellent condition with guaranteed authenticity.
