Roy Lichtenstein’s Nude with Blue Hair (1994) is a major work from his late Nudes series, in which the artist returned to the female figure with renewed stylistic clarity and formal innovation. Executed as a large-format relief print on Rives BFK paper, this edition combines classical subject matter with the mechanical aesthetic that defined Lichtenstein’s practice.
Rather than naturalistic representation, the nude is treated as a compositional construct—flattened into crisp outlines, dynamic curves, and segmented planes. The work makes reference not only to commercial illustration, but also to early modernist depictions of the nude, filtered through the visual language of Pop.
Published by Cohen Taylor in a signed edition of 60, this print exemplifies Lichtenstein’s ability to merge formalism with humour and critique. The use of relief printing—unusual within his print oeuvre—adds physicality to the linework, enhancing the spatial push-pull that characterises his late compositions.
Nude with Blue Hair is signed and numbered in pencil and is offered in excellent condition by Coskun Fine Art. Full authentication and provenance available upon request.
